The Ten Commandments of Interior Design

Darling, interior design is an art, a science, and sometimes a straight-up miracle. But like any good religion (and you know Joe preaches design gospel), there are rules you do not break. Forget these and thou shalt be cast into the land of bad lighting and faux-distressed furniture. Follow them and hallelujah — your home will be fabulous.

1. Thou Shalt Honour Natural Light
If you’ve got it, flaunt it. Big windows, sheer curtains, mirrors to bounce it around. Natural light is the Beyoncé of design.

2. Thou Shalt Not Buy Matching Furniture Sets
It’s 2025, babe — we are mixing, layering, and curating. Your home is not a showroom floor.

3. Thou Shalt Layer Textures Like Outfits
Leather, linen, velvet, stone. Layer it up. If your sofa is naked without a throw and a pillow, you’re doing it wrong.

4. Thou Shalt Avoid Clutter (But Not Personality)
Luxury is never chaotic, but soulless minimalism is just as bad. Edit, yes — but let your home tell your story.

5. Thou Shalt Invest in Good Lighting
Overhead “builder basic” fixtures? Absolutely not. Pendants, lamps, sconces — lighting is jewelry for the home.

6. Thou Shalt Respect Scale
Tiny rug under a giant sofa? A crime. Furniture that eats the room? A tragedy. Proportions matter, darling.

7. Thou Shalt Mix High & Low
It’s not about all designer everything. Pair your luxe statement pieces with chic, affordable finds. That’s what makes a space feel layered and lived in.

8. Thou Shalt Pay Attention to the Details
Hardware, trims, moldings, even light switches. The little things make the big difference — don’t skip them.

9. Thou Shalt Add Drama Somewhere
A pop of colour, a bold piece of art, a chandelier that screams fabulous. Every home deserves a “wow” moment.

10. Thou Shalt Always Be True to Thyself
Trends come and go, but you? You’re forever. Your home should feel like you, just elevated and glamorous.

There you have it, the 10 commandments of interior design. Break them at your own risk. But follow them, and your home will feel like heaven — with better cocktails.
